DEVELOPMENTS IN THE RENEWABLE ENERGY SECTOR

With the Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) model in Turkey, a total of 4,000 megawatts of competition, including 2,000 megawatts of solar and 2,000 megawatts of wind, has been completed so far.

According to the information received from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, a portfolio of 8,500 megawatts in total will be created with the YEKA model, including those whose competition is still ongoing.

The Ministry plans to continue YEKA competitions in order to increase and expand renewable energy capacity in the next period. With the YEKA model, a connection capacity of one thousand megawatts was allocated with the Karapınar YEKA-1 SPP competition, which was first held in 2017. As of the end of September, 363.58 megawatts of this facility was put into operation.

The second YEKA competition held in the same year, with YEKA RES-1, a connection capacity of 1000 megawatts was allocated and pre-licenses were given by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) on September 24, 2020 for the projects in Edirne-Tekirdağ-Kırklareli, Sivas and Eskişehir regions.
